AQHF Journalism – Communications Scholarship

The AQHF Journalism/Communications Scholarship is one of the many programs offered by the American Quarter Horse Foundation (AQHF) to the members of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) and American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA). Interested members will need to submit a nonspecific application which will be evaluated against various eligibility criteria to determine which scholarship award they most deserve.

Award Information:

Amount: $8,000
Number of Scholarship Awards: 1
Deadline: December 1, 2014
GPA: A minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher
Major: Journalism, Communications, or Photojournalism/Photography
Eligible Students: College Undergraduate Students

Additional Requirements:

– Must be a member of AQHA or AQHYA for at least one year
– Must be dedicated to pursuing a career in news, editorial or print journalism, photojournalism, or a similar field
– Must apply during his/her senior year of high school or while enrolled as a college freshman at an accredited postsecondary institution
– Must meet the minimum GPA requirement
– Must not be a current or a previous AQHF scholarship recipient

Application Process:

1. Go to http://www.aqha.com/Foundation/Content-Pages/Scholarships/Application.aspx and read the AQHF Scholarship Guidelines before you download the AQHF Scholarship Application form.

2. Using a PDF Reader, complete the fillable application form by answering the following sections:
a. Applicant Information
b. Certification by Applicant and Authorization
c. Family Information
d. Financial & Academic Expenses (You’ll need information from your FAFSA and SFAE to complete this section.)
e. Academic Information
f. Personal Goals and Objectives
g. American Quarter Horse Background

3. Provide an official copy of your most recent academic transcript showing your cumulative GPA and/or completed coursework.

4. Give the Scholarship Applicant Appraisal Form to someone who knows you well enough to comment on your skills and abilities and have them fill it out. This form will serve as your letter of recommendation.

5. Submit all application materials to:

Note:

• Do not attach any other document
• Do not staple application materials; you may use paper clips or binder clips to secure your application
• Do not place your application materials in binders, folders, or protective sheet covers
• Incomplete applications will not be considered
• Faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted

Selection Criteria:

The scholarship recipients are chosen by a selection subcommittee. The subcommittee will forward a list of recipients to the Board of Trustees to be approved. The scholarship recipients will be selected based on:

• Academic performance
• Financial need
• Leadership and communication skills
• American Quarter Horse involvement
