Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation Scholarship

The Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation scholarships are intended to provide financial aid to those who have shown financial need and their ability, aptitude, and promise to useful citizenship. Each of the scholarship recipients will be a living memory of Edmund F. Maxwell.

Eligible Students: College Freshmen or high school seniors

Additional Requirements:

– Demonstrate financial need
– Must plan to pursue a 4-year degree at an accredited private institution, which receives its fundamental support from sources other than taxes
– Must be bona fide residents of Western Washington
– Must have a combined math and reading SAT scores (not including the score on the writing section) of over 1200 or its ACT score equivalent
– Applicants may apply and receive other financial aid
– Applicants must have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the private institutions that they are planning to attend.

Application Process:

1. Go to www.maxwell.org and click on the “Application Form” link.

2. Complete the application form by providing the required information.

3. Upload following as attachments as Word Documents or PDF files:
a. Extracurricular Activities
b. Work Experience
c. 500-word Essay

4. Review your application and clink on “Submit” once you are done.

5. The following items must be sent to the Foundation by May 9:
a. Official high school transcript – should be verified, signed and transmitted to the Foundation by the Registrar of the applicant’s high school.
b. Official SAT/ACT score reports – may either be shown on the official transcript or delivered to the Foundation directly by the SAT or ACT. Students can request online at the College Board website that their SAT scores be sent to the Foundation by using the Foundation’s code (6697).

6. Send a copy of the Financial Aid Worksheet and Financial Aid Worksheet Cover Page to the appropriate financial aid office of each private institution for which you are seeking financial aid. The worksheets may be sent to multiple institutions. The Financial Aid Worksheet must be completed by the institution you will be attending and must be sent to the Foundation along with the Financial Aid Cover Page by May 16. Note: You can download the forms from the Foundation’s website.

Personal Statement Guidelines:

Compose a short personal essay (250-500 words) on the topics provided. The essay will help the Foundation better understand the applicants as individuals and as students; it will also demonstrate the applicants’ ability to organize their thoughts and express themselves. Please choose only one (1) topic:

1. Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, or risk you have taken or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

2. Discuss an issue of personal, national or international concern and its importance to you.

3. Indicate a person who has had a major influence on you and describe his/her influence.

4. Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work that has had an influence on you and explain that influence.

Additional Information:

– The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the academic institution which the recipient will be attending.
– Recipients are expected to maintain personal performance and satisfactory academic performance.
– Students who continue to meet the eligibility requirements must reapply to the Foundation to renew their scholarships each year.
