The ExCel Computing Scholarships program is funded by the National Science Foundation and is offered to academically talented students who are in need of financial support to pay for their pursuit of a B.S. or Master’s Degree at Loyola University, Chicago. This scholarship award may be combined with other financial aids granted by Loyola University.

Award Information:
Amount: $5,000 to $7,000 per year
Number of Scholarship Awards: The total number of scholarships will depend on the available funds
Deadlines:
• February 1 – Students who are not yet admitted to Loyola must submit a graduate or undergraduate admission application
• February 15 – Submission of ExCel application
GPA:
• Incoming Freshman – 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 24 ACT composite score or 1100 combined SAT (Math and Verbal)
• Incoming Graduate Student – 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Major: Bioinformatics, communications networks and security, computer science, mathematics, computer science and physics, information technology or software development
Eligible Students: College Undergraduate and Graduate Students

To be considered for this scholarship, a student must:
– Be a United States citizen, U.S. national, alien admitted as a refugee under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or alien lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a permanent resident
– Be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree program offered by Loyola’s Department of Computer Science
– Demonstrate financial need
– Graduate students must have at least 15 credit works remaining to degree completion at the start of the Fall term
Application Process:
1. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and file your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Make sure that Loyola’s University receives your information.
2. Then proceed to https://uao.luc.edu/apply/ and complete the online application or download the printable PDF file at http://www.luc.edu/cs/financial/excelprogram/ugappform/. First time applicants must create an account before they can access the online scholarship application. Online applications must be completed in one session.
3. Fill out the application form by providing:
a. Autobiographical Information
b. Academic Status
c. Personal statements
4. Students who are already enrolled at Loyola at the time of application are invited to submit a recommendation letter from one of Loyola’s faculty or staff member.

Selection Process and Criteria:
Once the applicants meet the eligibility criteria, selection of the scholarship recipients will be based on:
• Academic achievement
• Career goals
• Leadership potential
• Diversity of student interests and demographics
Note: Preference will be given to graduate students who do not have an undergraduate computing degree.
Renewal Guidelines:
Undergraduate ExCel Scholars must have at least two more semesters of full-time studies to complete their degrees in order to apply for renewal, as well as continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Students wishing to renew their scholarship must:
• Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and at least a 3.0 in major subjects

• Update their FAFSA information with the Office of Student Financial Assistance
