F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarships – Waverly Community House, Inc.

The F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship was established to provide financial help to artists who show exceptional aptitude and promise in the fine arts. The program is intended to help the recipients in their professional careers as artists. Established in 1964, it is given in the hope that it will help its recipients in their development as professional artists. Recipients may use the award money for formal or informal study or travel conducted according to an individual program or proposal which has been approved by the Selection Committee.

Eligibility Criteria:

– Applicants must be United States citizens
– Applicants should reside or have resided in the northeast region of Pennsylvania
– Applicants are not required to be a graduate student nor are they required to be formally trained in any academic or professional program to apply
– Applicants must be able to demonstrate that the scholarship will help them in their development into professional artists
– Applicants must be able to demonstrate proof of exceptional ability in his/her chosen field
– Applicants should demonstrate that the field they’ve chosen is intended to be their life’s work

Application Process:

Applicants must supply the Selection Committee with proof of exceptional ability in their chosen field and clearly show that their chosen field is intended to be their life’s work. This ability must be demonstrated through a selection process which is started by completing the online application. The form must be supported by letters of recommendation and detailed proposal for the use of the grant, including a project budget.

Detailed steps:

1. Go to www.belinarts.org and register an account. You’ll need to register a username and password before you can access the F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship Application Form.

2. Fill out the form completely and accurately. Your application can be saved to work on at a later date by clicking on the “save” button located at the bottom of the page.

3. If you are through with your application, select the verification box and click “Submit my application”. After clicking, you’ll be given your application in a printable format.

4. Print six copies of your application form.

5. Include three letters of recommendation (six copies of each) along with your application. Applications won’t be reviewed unless these letters are also provided.

6. Include a check or money order of $35 plus 6 copies of a CD/DVD showing representative samples of your work.

7. Mail all copies of the requirements and the $35 payment to:

Selection Criteria:

Grant recipients are chosen without the regard to race, color, creed, or sex. If the Selection Committee does not find a qualified candidate, then no award will be given on that year.  However, preference will be given to residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Selection Committee will inform all applicants within 90 days of the set deadline. Chosen finalists will be required to appear in person before the Committee for a short, final presentation of their work, as well as for a brief interview. Each of the finalists will be notified of their status within a week after presenting.

Terms of the Scholarship:

• The grant money is not intended to pay for tuition costs. The money may be used to pay for an individual program or proposal which has had prior approval to the Selection Committee and the Board of Trustees of The Waverly Community House, Inc.
• Grant recipients are expected to provide progress reports, including photos and/or other applicable documentation of the work in progress by November 1st.
• A more complete and detailed report must be submitted to the Administrative Chairperson on or before May 1st.

The scholarship recipient may use the award only to finance an individual program or proposal which had prior approval by the Scholarship Selection Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Waverly Community House, Inc. The recipient must make two (2) progress reports to the Administrative Chairperson. The reports will then be presented to the Board of Trustees of the Waverly Community House, Inc. The progress report should include photos and/or other suitable documentation of the work in progress. Failure to provide a progress report may result in the termination of the grant.
