Korean American Scholarship Foundation – Eastern Regional Chapter

 

The Korean American Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization that is managed by volunteers and was established to:

1. Provide scholarships to Korean American students pursuing higher education in the United States;

2. Encourage community and civic services as an integral part of leadership development; and

3. Nurture the sense of pride and confidence in Korean cultural heritage.

Number of Scholarship Awards: The total number of scholarships awarded will depend on the available funds.
Important Dates:
• Applications Available Online: April 1st
• Application and Recommendation Deadline: July 16th
• Announcement of Recipients: August 13th
• Scholarship Awards Banquet: September 28th
GPA: 3.0
Major: Applicants are free to choose their own majors

Scholarships Offered:

• ERC High School Scholarship
• ERC College/Graduate Scholarship
• ERC Scholarship for Descendants of American Korean War Veterans

General Eligibility Criteria:

– Must be of Korean descent studying in the Eastern region of the United States regardless of citizenship status
– Demonstrate financial need
– Have met and maintained the minimum cumulative GPA requirement
– Enrolled as a full-time student in one of the Eastern region states: Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or West Virginia

Your category depends on what your status will be during the current academic year, as follow:

1. High School Sophomores and Juniors – Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance.

2. High School Seniors with plans to attend college after graduating – Must attend a college within the Eastern region. Applicants must include a copy of their acceptance letters.

3. College Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors – Must attend a college/university within the Eastern Region.

4. College Seniors – Must be planning to enroll in a graduate or professional school in the Eastern region; applicants Must submit a copy of their acceptance letters.

5. Graduate Students – Must plan to continue their education within the Eastern region.

1. Access the online application via www.kasf.org/eastern and click on the link to the ERC High School Online Application.

2. Complete your application by providing the following:
a. Personal Information
b. Educational Information
c. Recommendations
d. Essays (English Only)
e. List of Extracurricular Activities

3. Click on the “Submit” button after reviewing your application.

College/Graduate Scholarship Application Process:

1. Access the online application via www.kasf.org/eastern.

2. Complete the online application by providing the following:
a. Personal information
b. Educational information
c. Name and Contact information for two (2) Faculty members
d. Essays on topics provided (500 words or less)
e. List of extracurricular activities
f. Financial information

3. Review your scholarship application before submitting.

ERC Korean War Veteran Descendant Scholarship Application Process:

1. Access the online application via www.kasf.org/eastern and fill out the forms completely.

2. A complete application will contain the following information:
a. Personal Information
b. Educational Information
c. Recommendations
d. Essay

3. Click on the “Submit” button to submit your application.

Selection Process:

The ERC selects its award recipients based on the following Criteria:

– High School Scholarship Program
o GPA – 60%
o Recommendations – 20%
o Essay – 20%
– College/Graduate Scholarship Program
o Financial need – 40%
o Scholastic performance – 25%
o Recommendation – 10%
o Essay – 10%
o Extra-curricular activities – 10%
o Extra Credit for standing out or having extraordinary circumstances – 5%
– ERC Korean War Veteran Descendant Scholarship Program
o Scholastic performance – 40%
o Recommendations – 20%
o Essay – 40%
