Microsoft Imagine Cup

The Microsoft Imagine Cup is a skill-based competition comprised of three (3) different competitions. The object of this competition is to create innovative and original software applications. It is open to student from around the globe, and spans one year, starting with national and online competitions, and finally ending at the World Finals.

Award Information:

Amount: $5,000 to $50,000 (World Finals)
Number of Scholarship Awards: Varies
Deadline: March 15, 2020
GPA: There is no minimum GPA requirement
Major: Business Planning, Video Production, Graphic Design, User Experience Design, Music and Sound Design, Testing and Quality Assurance, and Marketing and Social Media

Eligibility Requirements:

You may enter this competition if you:

– Are at least 16 years of age as of September 10, 2014 and are actively enrolled as a student at an accredited educational institution that grants high school or college/university degrees at any time between January 1, 2014 and July 31, 2020
– Are not a resident of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, or Syria
– Are not an employee or intern of Microsoft Corporation or a Microsoft subsidiary at any time between the dates January 1, 2020 and July 31, 2020
– Are not involved in any part of the execution or administration of this Competition
– Are not an immediate family member or household member of a Microsoft employee, and employee of a Microsoft subsidiary, or a person involved in any part of the administration and execution of this Competition between the dates mentioned above

Application Process:

1. Go to and register an account.

2. Go to your Imagine Cup dashboard and complete your member profile.

3. Create a new team by giving your team a name and providing your team’s details.

4. Invite more team members by entering their email addresses in the provided field.

5. Register for the competition or challenge you wish to join.

6. Assign team members to a competition by clicking on the box next to their name. You can also assign a role for each of your team members.

7. Start working on your project and submit it once you are satisfied with it. You’ll need to provide your project’s name, a short description of your project, and the category you’re submitting it under.

Team Guidelines:

A single team may consist of up to four (4) members. Teams are allowed to utilize the help of associates; however, these associates must also be students and meet all of the general eligibility requirements. Associates are not allowed to be compensated for their work and are may not win any Imagine Cup prizes.

General Entry Standards:

Each Competition and Challenge has its own rules and requirements. In addition to those rules, entries are required to meet the following standards:

• Entry materials must be presented and/or submitted in the English language unless otherwise specified.
• Oral presentations and/or supporting materials must be presented in English.
• You are responsible for providing your own translator if you need one. Translators who are not members of a team must only translate the spoken works of the team members.
• The content of all entries and supporting materials must be acceptable for all viewing audiences.
