The North Carolina Student Incentive Grant (NCSIG) is a program of the State of North Carolina and is administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA) through the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC). The purpose of the program is to provide financial help to needy North Carolina resident students who are eligible to attend colleges and universities within the State of North Carolina.

To be considered for the NCSIG, applicants must:
– Be a United States citizen
– Be a resident of North Carolina
– Hold a high school diploma or a GED certificate
– Enroll or be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited North Carolina college or university
– Enroll for the entire academic year
– Not enroll in a program which will lead to a religious career
– Meet and maintain Satisfactory Academic Process (SAP)
– Be able to demonstrate “substantial” financial need
o The total income of a Dependent Student’s Parent must be at least $3,000 and no more than $50,000 each year.
o The total income of an Independent Student plus the student’s spouse (if applicable) must be at least $3,000 and no more than $50,000 in the calendar year preceding the date of the NCSIG application and the student’s EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) is zero.
To apply for the North Carolina Student Incentive Grant, you must file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To hasten the filing process, you may file online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. When applying, please show on the form that you are a legal North Carolina resident. You will also need to list at least one North Carolina college, university, technical, or vocational school in the release section of the form. The postsecondary institution you list should be the institution you plan on attending.
The Foundation shall send the North Carolina Student Incentive Grant funds via electronic transfer to the recipient’s school. It will be the responsibility of the approved institution to notify the recipients that the funds have been transferred. Recipients will be notified in either writing or via electronic communication.
The NCSIG is awarded for only one academic year. Previous grant recipients are allowed to reapply annually, provided that they continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Please note that receiving the grant the previous year will not entitle the recipient to any special or priority consideration in the following years; all applications will be evaluated equally without regards to sex, race, religion, creed, or color.
