Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts Scholarship – Congressional Black Caucus

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts Scholarship program was created in 2000. This highly competitive scholarship program was established to honor the memory of the late performing artist Curtis Mayfield, as well as provide financial help to gifted students who are pursuing art degrees and careers.

Amount: Up to $3,000 each
Number of Scholarship Awards: Up to 10 students may be awarded yearly
Start of Application Period: Typically at the end of January
Deadline: May 1st (Deadline may vary each year)
GPA: A GPA of 2.5 or higher
Major: Drama, Music, Dance, Opera, and other musical ensembles
Eligible Students: High school seniors or current college undergraduates

Additional Requirements:

– Must meet the minimum GPA requirement
– Must be pursuing a major in the performing arts such as, but not limited to, drama, music, dance, opera, etc.
– Must plan to enter a career in the performing arts
– Must be able to demonstrate a talent or potential in their chosen art
– Must be able to exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities
– Must be enrolled as a full-time college undergraduate in an accredited college or university or be a graduating high school senior preparing to enroll as a full-time student pursuing a major in performing arts at an accredited college/university
– Must be a United State citizen or a permanent resident

Application Process:

The first part of the online application process is the general application which you’ll be required to provide certain materials that are relevant to all of the CBC Foundation’s programs. After completing Part 1, you will be redirected to a section that shows all the scholarship programs and awards that you can apply for.

In the 2nd part, you’ll see and answer opportunity-specific questions for each of the scholarships, internships, awards, grants, etc., that you can apply. Applicants are allowed to apply to as many CBC Foundation programs as they would like.

When accessing the online application, you’ll be required to provide the following items:

1. Completed application form

2. Personal statement about 500-1000 words addressing all four (4) of the topics listed on the application in one organized essay.

3. Two Letters of Recommendation – One of the letters should come from a community/public service leaders, such as a church leader, community leader, or volunteer organization. You’ll need to enter the recommender’s information on the online application. Please make sure to follow the instructions provided.

4. Electronic copy of detailed Federal Student Aid Report (SAR).

5. One- to two-page resume listing your extracurricular activities, honors, awards, employment history, community service participation, and special skills.

6. Recent photo that’s suitable for publication; cap and gown, or other professional quality and professionally dressed photos are acceptable.

7. One- to 2-minute visual recording sample – You must be easily identified, and the file must be saved in a format that’s playable on Windows Media Player.

Additional application materials:

The following documents must be mailed to the organization. These documents must be received prior to the set deadline:

1. Graduating high school seniors must provide proof of enrollment (such as an acceptance letter) into institution of study for the current year.

2. Official academic transcripts from all institutions attended placed in sealed envelopes.
