Washington State Association for Justice Presidents’ Scholarship

The Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ) Presidents’ Scholarship program was established in 1991. It was established in order to support and encourage the efforts of Washington State high school students who have overcome obstacles to achieve both academically and socially. The competition for this $2,000 scholarship award is increasing each year. The past recipients have included cancer survivors, auto accident victims and teens with different physical challenges.

Application Process:

1. Send a letter (written by the student or applicant) to the scholarship committee describing the qualifications of the applicant and explaining the reason why the student/applicant feels they deserve the scholarship.

2. Accompany this letter with the following:
a. All high school and community college transcripts
b. The name, home address, and the contact information of two (2) references, at least one must be outside of the academic environment
c. A short financial statement showing what resources are available to the student/applicant and why this scholarship award is necessary to the fund the student’s/applicant’s college education (copies of filed FAFSA may be submitted)
d. Name, home address, contact number, email address of the applicant
e. Any other supporting documents the applicant may wish to use to support his/her qualifications
f. A completed “Application Checklist” form
3. Submit the completed application package to:

– Meet the eligibility criteria
– Letter describing applicant’s qualifications for the scholarship and explains why he/she deserves the award
– All high school and community college transcripts

– Applicant information
– Any supporting documentation
– Completed and enclosed “Application Checklist” form

Selection Criteria:

The scholarship winners will be chosen by the scholarship committee based on the following criteria:
• Documented need for financial help
• Academic achievement and planned advancement towards a degree in a postsecondary academic institution
• Record of commitment to helping other people in need or protecting the rights of an injured person
• Plan or commitment to apply one’s education towards helping others
• History of achievement despite having been a victim of injury or overcoming a disability, handicap, or other similar challenges

Award Disbursement:

The scholarship awards will be made directly to the award recipient’s chosen academic institution. The funds may be used to pay for tuition, room, board, or other similar fees.

Note: By accepting the award, recipients agree without any limitation or further compensation or notice that the WSAJ may use their names and likeness in any and all media for advertising and promotional purposes.
