William Hunt Professional Development Scholarship ASTA Pacific Northwest Chapter

The William Hunt Professional Development Scholarship is administered by Tourism Cares. Tourism Cares is a non-profit public charity that benefits society by preserving the travel experiences for future generations.
The scholarship works on a reimbursement basis, and the course completion date (or conference dates) must not be more than 12 months prior to the scholarship application deadline. The scholarship award is made possible by the ASTA Pacific Northwest Chapter.

Eligibility Criteria:

– Applicant must be a United States citizen
– Applicant must have at least two (2) years of experiences in the travel industry
– Applicant must have successfully completed the Travel Institute Education program or attend the ASTA International Destination Expo
– Applicant must be a member in good standing of the ASTA Pacific Northwest Chapter (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington)
– Applicants who are employed at an office where at least one travel agent is a member of the chapter may apply

Application Process:

To apply for this scholarship award, you must scan and save as a PDF (not JPEG) all the following required items and email them as separate documents to the Tourism Cares Scholarship Department at [email protected], or fax them as a single complete file to (781) 821-8949 before the set deadline. Please do not forget to include “[your name] and ASTA [your chapter name] Prof Dev Scholarship in the email subject line and each file name:

• Completed ASTA Chapter Professional Development Application Form (Download the application form from Tourism Cares official website.), with hand signed approval of the application by the ASTA Chapter Board Officer.
• A legible copy of your U.S. driver’s license, or passport, as proof of citizenship or permanent residency.
• Updated resume.
• Completed Tourism Cares Employment Verification Form (May be downloaded from the website), hand signed by your most recent employer to confirm your employment status.
• Proof of course completion (or for ASTA IDE conference attendance) and full payment from the accredited educational institution offering the program. You may submit a certification of completion (or for ASTA IDE official conference badge) and a clear copy of an official receipt showing full payment for the course.
• A one-page original essay, typewritten in 12 point font, and double-spaced with 1-inch margins all around, which is signed to verify that it is your original work. Your essay should address the following questions:

o Why had you been interested in taking further training in travel?
o What benefits did you receive from the program you completed?
o How does your training relate to your future plans as a travel industry professional?

Note: If you attended the ASTA International Destination Expo, please submit a trip report detailing why you attended the IDE, and what you learned at the conference, what benefits you received, and how the experience relates to your plans as a travel industry professional.
